Tony's background

Born in England, Tony Butler moved to Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) in 1946 but later returned to England at the age of sixteen to study at the Chelsea Art School.
On completion of his studies, he once again went to Zimbabwe to work in advertising.

Tony as artist

He exhibits regularly at Kirstenbosch, Cape Town and has been a successful exhibitor at the Barbican Gallery in Plymouth, The Mall and Tryon Galleries in London and the annual Christies Wild Life auction since 1993, Windhoek, Nambia and Atlantis, USA

Advertising background

He pursued his career in commercial art and this took him to Melbourne, Australia where he became an art director of a leading advertising agency and did painting in his spare time.

Return to Africa
The early 70's saw his return to Africa. He continued to work in advertising and spent all his free time travelling throughout Southern Africa game parks. In 1987, he decided to retire from advertising and concentrate on painting -mainly wildlife.
